Women's Basketball Falls at Home to Saint Mary's

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 65-54 at home by Saint Mary's College on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo led 13-10 after the first quarter but was outscored 21-10 in the second to trail 31-23 at halftime. The Hornets battled back and took a two-point lead (43-41) late in the third before ending the quarter down three (46-43). Kalamazoo was still within five with 7:42 remaining but fell behind by double digits with 3:51 left. The Hornets cut the deficit to seven but could not get any closer in the 65-54 defeat.

Saint Mary's shot 33.3 percent overall compared to 26.3 percent by Kalamazoo. The Belles made 6-of-20 three-pointers compared to 1-of-21 by the Hornets. Saint Mary's also made 21-of-30 free throws compared to 13-of-17 by Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo held a 54-45 advantage in rebounds, including 29-17 on the offensive end.

Ruby Hogan led Kalamazoo with 21 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and two steals.

Alyse Baughman scored a career-high 13 points with five rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.

Jackie Brines added nine points with five rebounds. Lauren Vanderstelt finished with seven points and 15 rebounds.

Kalamazoo returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 11, at Calvin at 3 p.m.
