ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team won 48-46 at Adrian College Wednesday night.
Kalamazoo led 10-9 after the first quarter but trailed 25-21 at halftime. The Hornets outscored Adrian 14-6 in the third to take a 35-31 lead into the fourth. Adrian chipped away and took a 41-39 lead with 3:31 left in regulation. The Bulldogs were still up two with 2:33 remaining when
Ruby Hogan's 3-pointer put the Hornets back on top. The teams each made a layup before Adrian tied it at 46-46 with a free throw with 24 seconds remaining.
Alyse Baughman was fouled with 2.5 seconds left and sank both free throws to put Kalamazoo up 48-46. Adrian advanced the ball up the court with the timeout but was unable to get a shot off after inbounding in the final seconds.
Adrian shot 36.4 percent from the field compared to 28.6 percent by Kalamazoo. The Hornets made 5-of-15 3-pointers compared to 1-of-14 by Adrian. The Bulldogs sank 11-of-17 free throws compared to 5-of-7 by the Hornets. Each team had 41 rebounds. Adrian held a 15-14 edge on the offensive end.
Ruby Hogan led the Hornets with 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Lauren Vanderstelt recorded a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Brittany Miller finished with seven points.
Alyse Baughman scored six points with six rebounds.
Sophia Moir added six points with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Jackie Brines led the team with eight assists and three steals to go with two points and four rebounds.
Kalamazoo returns home to face Olivet on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m.
