KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 75-64 by Alma College at home on Wednesday.
Despite trailing early, Kalamazoo closed out the first quarter on a 13-2 run to lead 22-14 at the end of the first quarter. The visiting Scots outscored Kalamazoo 26-13 in the second quarter to take a 40-35 lead into halftime. The Hornets were within four points twice in the third before trailing 58-47 entering the fourth. Kalamazoo trailed 60-58 with 6:53 left but could not get any closer in the 75-64 defeat.
Alma shot 46.3 percent overall compared to 36.5 percent by Kalamazoo. The Hornets made 9-of-28 three-pointers compared to 4-of-10 by Alma. The Scots sank 21-of 25 free throws. Kalamazoo made 9-of-19. Kalamazoo outrebounded Alma 41-34 including 17-7 on the offensive end.
Lauren Vanderstelt led Kalamazoo with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Ruby Hogan scored 11 points with eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
Sophia Moir added eight points.
Lewie Wilks finished with seven points.
Alyse Baughman scored six points with five rebounds.
Jackie Brines scored six points with five rebounds and two assists.
Josee Cooke scored five points with three rebounds.
The Hornets are back in action next Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Adrian.
