KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 76-50 at home by No. 17 Trine University Saturday afternoon.
Kalamazoo scored the first two points of the game but trailed 19-7 after the first quarter. The Hornets shot 66 percent in the second quarter and cut the deficit to three (28-25) heading into halftime. Trine regained a double-digit lead four minutes into the third quarter and pulled away to the 76-50 final.
The visiting Thunder shot 46.2 percent overall while making 8-of-22 three-pointers. Kalamazoo shot 40.5 percent overall with 4-of-15 three's. Trine held a 31-30 edge in rebounds, including 13-9 on the offensive end.Â
Lauren Vanderstelt led Kalamazoo with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting with two free throws.Â
Ruby Hogan finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Josee Cooke added seven points with five rebounds and two blocked shots.
Jackie Brines scored seven points with two rebounds.
Kalamazoo is back in action at home next Wednesday, Jan. 22, taking on Alma at 7 p.m.
