KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated Augustana University (Ill.) 3-1 at MacKenzie Field on Tuesday afternoon. It was the first loss of the season for the visiting Vikings (6-1-1).
Augustana scored the game's first goal in the 17th minute.
After several solid attempts throughout the first half, Kalamazoo finally put one in the net in the 43rd minute when
Sydney Hagaman scored off passes by
Maggie Westra and
Mia Crites.
After going to halftime tied 1-1, Kalamazoo pulled ahead in the 59th minute when
Ellie Andrews ran down a long pass from
Maeve Nolan and scored.
Hagaman scored her second goal of the game in the 84th minute off a corner kick by Andrews.
Kalamazoo outshot Augustana 14-7 overall, 8-3 on goal. The Hornets also had nine corner kicks to Augustana's one.
Elana Mitchell was credited with two saves in goal as the Hornets won their second consecutive game.
Kalamazoo is off until next week Wednesday, Oct. 2, when the Hornets open MIAA play at Saint Mary's College.
