GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's cross country team finished second at the Calvin/GRCC Knight Raider Invitational on Friday morning.
Kalamazoo had six runners in the top 25.
Paige Anderson led the Hornets and finished second overall with a time of 18:05 in the 5K event.
Ava King finished third at 18:31.
Haleigh Nower finished ninth overall at 19:30.
Allison Mayer followed in 13th (19:39),
Alison Hankins was 16th (19:46), and
Maya Alkema was 25th (20:24).Â
"We knew it was going to be a challenging day with the heat, but both teams showed up and competed quite well," said Head Coach
Kyle Morrison. "Even with a couple women out with illness or injury, we ran a great team race. It was the only 5K of the season and several of our women ran lifetime bests today. Newcomers
Ava King,
Allison Mayer and
Kali Bunce had really exceptional days. Paige, Hankins and Nower were all very strong. It will be exciting to see us on the same course for the MIAA Championships in seven weeks. We're in a very good position for this point in the season."
The Hornets are back in action on Oct. 4 at the Pre-National meet hosted by Rose-Hulman.
