Women's Basketball Falls to Elmhurst

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 61-50 at home by Elmhurst University on Saturday.

The visiting Blue Jays (9-2) led 17-8 after the first quarter and 30-18 at halftime. Kalamazoo trailed by as many as 21 in the third before ending the quarter down 53-35. The Hornets trailed by 21 again early in the fourth. Kalamazoo cut the deficit to nine with 48 seconds left but could not get any closer in the 61-50 defeat.

Elmhurst shot 38.2 percent overall while holding Kalamazoo to 29.7 percent. Elmhurst made 6-of-16 three-pointers and 13-of-19 free throws. Kalamazoo made 5-of-21 three's and 7-of-11 at the line. Kalamazoo held a 46-39 advantage in rebounds, including 17-8 on the offensive end.

Ruby Hogan led the Hornets (5-6) with 14 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Lauren Vanderstelt scored seven points with nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Sophia Moir scored seven points with three rebounds.

Jordan Wesaw added six points with eight rebounds, while Taylor Dinda scored six points with three rebounds. Lewie Wilks finished with five points and three rebounds.

Kalamazoo returns to MIAA play on Jan. 4 when the Hornets travel to Olivet for a 1 p.m. contest.
