Women's Basketball Defeats Lakeland 75-63

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated Lakeland University 75-63 inside the Anderson Athletic Center Friday afternoon.

Kalamazoo led 20-17 after the first quarter and 37-31 at halftime. The Hornets opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 15-point lead (46-31) five minutes in. Kalamazoo led by as many as 19 in the quarter before taking a  56-39 lead into the fourth. Kalamazoo led by as many as 20 points midway through the fourth. The visiting Muskies chipped away in the closing minutes ending with the 75-63 final.

Kalamazoo shot 42.9 percent from the field while making 6-of-14 three's. Lakeland shot 30.9 percent overall with just 1-of-17 three's. Kalamazoo made 15-of-27 free throws. Lakeland sank 20-of-30.

The Hornets held a 51-42 advantage in rebounds.

Ruby Hogan led Kalamazoo with 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Jordan Wesaw posted a double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and three assists.

Lauren Vanderstelt scored 10 points with nine rebounds. Lewie Wilks also finished with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists.

The win was Kalamazoo's second in a row and third in the last four games, improving the Hornets' record to 5-5 on the season.

Kalamazoo's next game is Saturday, Dec. 28, at home against Elmhurst at 2 p.m.
