KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 54-47 by Albion College at home Saturday afternoon.
The visiting Britons led 17-8 after the first quarter. Kalamazoo outscored Albion 16-12 in the second to trail 29-24 at halftime. Kalamazoo cut the deficit to three early in the third before trailing by as many as 10 (43-33) late in the quarter. Albion led 43-35 at the end of three. The Hornets cut the deficit to six twice in the fourth before ending with the seven point loss (54-47).
Kalamazoo shot 31.3 percent overall compared to 30.4 percent by Albion. The Britons made 4-of-14 three's compared to 1-of-13 by Kalamazoo. Albion also sank 16-of-19 free throws compared to 6-of-10 by the Hornets.
Kalamazoo outrebounded Albion 48-33 overall, 20-11 on the offensive end. Kalamazoo finished with 17 turnovers after 14 in the first half. Albion turned the ball over 12 times.
Lauren Vanderstelt led Kalamazoo with 11 points, 17 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Sophia Moir also scored 11 points with four rebounds.
Ruby Hogan added nine points with eight rebounds and three assists.Â
Jackie Brines scored five points with four assists.
Josee Cooke added four points with four rebounds.
Kalamazoo plays Wooster in the second of four consecutive home games on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m.
