GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team improved to 3-4 this season after defeating Kenyon 64-51 on Wednesday (Dec. 11
th) evening in Gambier, Ohio.
Kalamazoo went on a 5-0 run to start the game and never looked back, outscoring Kenyon 19-7 in the first quarter and 11-9 in the second, to take a 30-16 lead heading into the half. The Hornets continued to outscore Kenyon 21-17 in the third to secure a 64-51 victory.
Kalamazoo shot 61.1% (11-18) from the free-throw line and 33.3% from the field. Kenyon shot 35.1% from the field and 57.1% behind the free-throw line. The Hornets outrebounded the Owls 58-29. with 28 offensive rebounds to Kenyon's eight. The Hornets forced 17 turnovers and secured 10 steals in the game.
Three Hornets hit double-digit points against Kenyon, led by
Ruby Hogan with 20 points on 6-15 shooting, eight rebounds, and two assists.
Jordan Wesaw recorded her third double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Lauren Vanderstelt was the third Hornet to hit double-digits, scoring 11 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
Sophia Moir added five points and five rebounds for the Hornets, while
Jackie Brines put up four points and four rebounds.
Alyse Baughman recorded seven rebounds on the day.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday, Dec. 14
th at the Anderson Athletic Center as they take on Albion at 1 p.m.
