Men's Basketball Falls to Oberlin

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was defeated 78-65 at home by Oberlin College Tuesday night.

The score was 15-15 nine minutes into the contest. Oberlin then pulled ahead by as many as 12 before taking a 40-31 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo cut the deficit to seven early in the second half before falling behind by 13. The Hornets made another run and were within five (70-65) with 3:36 remaining, but were unable to get any closer as the Yeomen scored eight straight to end the game (78-65).

Lukas Broadsword led Kalamazoo with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.

Lucas Hanifan and DJ Ferguson each added 10 points off the bench.

Nelson Sompa scored eight points with three assists. DJ Courtney scored four points while sharing the team lead with six rebounds.

Oberlin shot 48.3 percent from the field compared to 40.0 percent by Kalamazoo. The Yeomen made 9-of-22 three-pointers (40.9%) compared to 8-of-25 (32.0%) by the Hornets. Oberlin sank 11-of-18 free throws compared to 9-of-15 by Kalamazoo. Oberlin outrebounded Kalamazoo 41-29.

Kalamazoo plays the third of four straight home games on Sunday, Dec. 15, when the Hornets host Lake Forest College at 3 p.m.
