KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team improved to 5-2 this season after defeating Lake Forest 74-72 Sunday (Dec. 15
th) afternoon at home.
Kalamazoo started off the game on an 8-0 run, led by
Nelson Sompa and
Lukas Broadsword. The Hornets' defense held Lake Forest scoreless until the 15-minute mark.
The Hornets secured an eight-point lead (35-27) heading into the second half. In the second half, Lake Forest outscored Kalamazoo 45-39.
The Hornets shot 47.8% (32-67) from the field, while the Foresters shot 38.8% (26-67) from the field and 32.3% (10-31) from behind the arc. Kalamazoo outrebounded Lake Forest 49-34 and hauled in 10 offensive rebounds to the Foresters six. The Hornets dished out 19 assists as a team and forced seven turnovers.
Lukas Broadsword led the Hornets with 19 points on 9-13 shooting, seven assists and six rebounds.
Carter Bandemer and
Bradley Eziuka both added 15 points each for the Hornets. Bandemer on 6-11 shooting from the field and 3-7 from the three-point line, and Eziuka on 7-12 shooting.
Additionally, Bandemer dished out four assists and two rebounds, while Ezuika hauled in seven rebounds.
DJ Courtney led Kalamazoo in rebounds with eight, and 10 points on 4-11 shooting.
Nelson Sompa notched 10 points on 4-5 shooting from the field and 2-2 from behind the arc.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Friday, Dec. 20
th at 5 p.m. to take on Illinois Tech in their fourth consecutive home game.
