Men's Basketball Wins 76-73 at Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 76-73 win at Dominican University Saturday afternoon.

In a game with 14 led changes, Kalamazoo led by as many as 14 points (23-9) midway through the first half. The Hornets took a 39-33 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo led by as many as 11 (55-44) with 16:08 left in the second half. Dominican chipped away and eventually took a lead (61-60) with 9:20 remaining. The lead went back and forth and the Stars led by three (69-66) with 5:40 on the clock. Kalamazoo regained the lead for good with 2:24 remaining. A last second three-point attempt by Dominican missed to the left to end the game.

Kalamazoo shot 50 percent overall and 15.4 percent from three-point range. Dominican shot 47.6 percent overall and 29.2 percent from behind the arc. Kalamazoo made 10-of-17 free throws compared to 6-of-13 by Dominican. Each team had 36 rebounds.

Lukas Broadsword led the Hornets with 17 points and eight rebounds on 7-of-13 shooting.

Patrick Perez scored 14 points with five rebounds and two steals.

Nelson Sompa scored 10 points with five assists and two steals.

DJ Courtney, DJ Ferguson and Caleb Caul each scored eight points. Courtney also had four assists.

Kalamazoo returns to action next Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Grace Christian University beginning at 7 p.m.
