ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated Westminster (Pa.) 67-49 in the consolation game of the Teammates For Life Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Mount Union Sunday afternoon.
The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the game. Kalamazoo grabbed it's first double-digit lead (19-7) with 1:54 left in the first quarter.
Kalamazoo led 24-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Hornets' lead was cut to nine (26-17) with 5:50 left in the second before Kalamazoo took a 35-19 lead into halftime. The Hornets led by at least 15 points throughout the second half.
Kalamazoo shot 42.9 percent overall while holding Westminster to 28.1 percent. Kalamazoo outrebounded Westminster 50-32, including 14-7 on the offensive end.
Lauren Vanderstelt led Kalamazoo with 20 points and 14 rebounds in her first double-double as a Hornet. She also had three assists and four blocked shots and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Jordan Wesaw also had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. She also led the team with three steals.
Ruby Hogan finished with 10 points and four assists.
Lewie Wilks scored nine points with four assists.
Alyse Baughman added eight points, six rebounds and three assists.
Jackie Brines scored seven points with two steals.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Bluffton University at 6 p.m.
