KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team was defeated in five sets by Bluffton University inside the Anderson Athletic Center Thursday night.
Kalamazoo won the first set 25-23. Bluffton responded by winning the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-18. Kalamazoo won the fourth set 25-20. Bluffton won the first five points of the fifth set. Kalamazoo cut the deficit to three (10-7) before Bluffton scored the next five points to win the set and the match.
Bluffton (16-7) hit 165 in the match compared to .098 by Kalamazoo. Bluffton hit .476 with 11 kills and just one error in the decisive fifth set.
Ann Lawrence led Kalamazoo with 14 kills on the night.
Taylor Stephens had 12 kills with 18 digs and two block assists.
Savannah Chapie had eight kills, six block assists and one solo block.
Tatum Casper had seven kills with five block assists.
Ava Bechler had six kills, four block assists an one solo block.
Makala Goddard finished with 21 assists and eight digs.
Emerson Arensman had 18 assists, five digs and three block assists.
Lizzy Rachiele led the Hornets with 34 digs and three aces.
Rachel Meston had 11 digs and three aces.
Olive Ryder finished with 15 digs.
Kalamazoo returns to MIAA play on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Trine. That match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
