Women's Tennis Wins MIAA Championship

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team captured the 2023 MIAA tennis championship outright with a 9-0 win at Trine University Saturday afternoon. The win marked Kalamazoo's 41st MIAA championship all-time and first since 2007.

Kalamazoo swept the three doubles matches before winning all six singles matches.

Renee Torres/Sophie Zhang won 8-2 at one doubles. Rebecca Elias/Ivy Walker also won 8-2 at three. Meghan Killmaster/Maddie Hurley won 8-7(4) at two.

Torres and Zhuang won at one and two singles, respectively, to clinch the match and the championship for the Hornets. Torres won 6-3, 6-0. Zhuang won 6-2, 6-1.

Killmaster won 6-2, 6-2 at three singles. Hurley won 7-5, 6-1 at four. Eleni Bougioukou won 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 at five. Walker won 6-0, 6-0 at six.

The win also marked the 150th career victory for Kalamazoo College Head Coach Mark Murphy.

As the top seed in the MIAA Tournament, Kalamazoo will host a semifinal match on Wednesday, April 26. The time and opponent will be posted on the schedule once announced by the league.
