HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team was defeated 5-3 by Hope College in a close battle at the MIAA Tournament Championships on Friday. 

Hope took a 2-1 lead after the doubles rounds, winning at the No. 1 and 3 spots. The team of Caroline Norton and Renee Torres won at No. 2 8-5 to give Kalamazoo its first points of the match. 

Hope's No. 3 player was first off the courts in singles, having defeated Helen Pelak 6-3, 6-0. The Dutch picked up the win at No. 2 to go up 3-1.

The Hornets earned another point with the 6-3, 6-4 win by Sophie Zhuang at No. 4 followed up by a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 by Torres. Hope was the first to five points as Caroline Norton was defeated in a third-set decision at No. 1 singles. 

The Hornets finish their season with an 11-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in league play.
