Women's Soccer notches win in home opener

Box Score

The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team earned its first win of the season Saturday afternoon in its first home game of the season. The Hornets defeated the visitors from Trine University by a final score of 3-0.

"It's great to open up at home with a win, get three points and get our first win of the year as well," Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings said.

Katie Sorensen got the scoring started Saturday on a penalty kick in the 25th minute of play. Sydney Spring added another for the Hornets in the 43rd minute as she slotted away a free kick from 25 yards out.

Madison Moote tacked on the final goal for the Hornets in the 65th minute when she headed in a corner kick served by Sorensen.

The Hornets controlled the flow of play from the start and ended the game outshooting the Thunder, 22-6.

"I thought we did a really good job of controlling the pace of the game which is obviously really important for our team. I thought all of the midfielders played really well," Goyings said.

With the win, Kalamazoo improves to 1-1 in the MIAA. K will travel to St. Mary's on Monday, Sept. 14 for its next MIAA match up. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
