Hornets hold off Bulldogs

Box Score

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team defeated Albion 46-40 in thrilling fashion on Wednesday night. The Hornets move to 7-9 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.

Kalamazoo led for the majority of the game – at one point by as many as 15 points. The Hornets went into the half with a 28-15 lead. Kalamazoo held the Bulldogs to 25 percent shooting in the first half. Jake Whitney had seven big first half points in the low scoring affair to boost Kalamazoo.

The Hornets continued to control the game for more than half of the second half, but the Bulldogs were tenacious and never let the game get away from them. The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game with 7:34 remaining in the game. After that, Adam Peters came to the rescue. With the Hornets down 40-39 and less than a minute remaining Peters drove into the lane and hit the shot while being fouled for the and one. He then proceeded to score Kalamazoo's next three points from the foul line and get a huge block and steal on the other end of the court to seal the game.

Carl Ghafari was huge for the Hornets as he led the team in rebounds with seven – not something usually done by a team's point guard. Jake Whitney was also fantastic with a team high nine points.

The Hornets put on an incredible defensive display by holding the Bulldogs to just 40 points on 27 percent shooting. The forty points are the fewest Kalamazoo has allowed all year.

Kalamazoo will have its next chance to build off this win Saturday, Jan. 24 at home against conference opponent Hope.
