Women's Tennis sweeps Olivet 9-0

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team opened up Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play rolling over Olivet College 9-0 Saturday, March 29.

The Hornets dropped just seven games in the entire match, all of which came in singles play. In doubles senior Jenna Riehl and sophomore Sarah Woods won 8-0 at first doubles, senior Kelsey Moran and junior Olivia Bouchard won by the same score at second doubles while sophomore Ania Latala and freshman Sabrina Dass won 8-0 at third doubles.

Moran and Dass won at first and second singles respectively each by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Latala's third singles flight clinched the match for Kalamazoo.

Bouchard dropped just one second-set game while junior Cheryl Zhang won 6-0, 6-2 at fifth singles. Sophomore Katie Clark rounded out the match winning 6-1, 6-1 at sixth singles.

"We had a great start in doubles," Kalamazoo Head Coach Mark Murphy said. "We took our top two singles players out of the lineup to allow the others to move up."

Kalamazoo improves to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in the MIAA. The Hornets have a quick turnaround playing Adrian tomorrow, March 30 at the Markin Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
