Women's Soccer held scoreless against Chicago

Box Score

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team lost 2-0 to the University of Chicago at MacKenzie Field on Sunday.

The visiting Maroons (7-2) scored their first goal 23 minutes into the contest and took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Chicago added a second goal just 1:14 into the second half while keeping Kalamazoo from getting good shot opportunities on goal to secure the win.

Chicago outshot Kalamazoo 13-10 overall, including 7-2 on goal. Lucy Mailing made five saves in goal for the Hornets (4-5).

"I thought we gave a very good effort after a quick turnaround from yesterday's game," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings. "If we eliminate the slow start to the second half it could have been a different contest."

Elizabeth Clevenger and Bronte Payne led the offensive attack with two shots each. Rachel Dandar and Paige Sambor each had a shot on goal.

Coach Goyings also praised Madeleine Chilcote on a "very good performance in the midfield."

Kalamazoo returns to MIAA competition with a game at Hope on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.

"Converting our offensive opportunities will be very important in getting back in the win column," added Goyings.
