Box Score The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team closed out the 2013 season with an 80-68 win over Alma College on Senior Day inside Anderson Athletic Center. It was the third straight win for Kalamazoo and moved the Hornets ahead of Alma for sixth place in the MIAA.
The first half saw seven lead changes while Alma held an eight point lead (27-19) midway through the half. Kalamazoo battled back to take a lead with 6:31 remaining, but the Scots closed out the half on top, 43-40.
Alma led by as many as five points in the second half and did not trail until Kalamazoo took a 60-58 lead with 9:39 left in regulation. Leading 65-63 with 5:05 remaining, Kalamazoo used a 13-2 run to take a 78-65 lead with 1:11 left in the game. The Hornets held strong in the final minute to finish off the 80-68 win.
Kalamazoo shot 48.4 percent overall despite hitting just 7-of-25 three-pointers. Alma shot 39.1 percent overall while making 9-of-28 three's. Kalamazoo made 13-of-20 free throws compared to 5-of-11 by Alma, and the Hornets held a 45-36 advantage in rebounds.
Mark Ghafari scored a career-high 31 points while pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds. Ghafari also had seven assists while sinking 8-of-10 free throws.
Adam Peters also scored a career-high 22 points on 11-of-16 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds.
Mike Oravetz scored eight points with two assists and two steals in 25 minutes off the bench. Grant Carey scored seven points with four rebounds and four assists. Eric Fishman finished with six points, four rebounds, and four assists.
