Box Score The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team lost its season opener 3-1 at the University of Chicago on Saturday.
Kalamazoo scored first with a goal by C.J. McCarthy just over 42 minutes into the contest (Rachel Dandar assist).
Chicago responded immediately and evened the score with a goal just 23 seconds later.
The score was tied at 1-1 until Chicago scored in the 57th minute. The host Maroons added their third goal in the 89th minute.
Chicago held an 11-8 advantage in shots, including 10-5 on goal.
Lucy Mailing made seven saves in goal for Kalamazoo.
The Hornets are scheduled to play next at North Central (Ill.) on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. CT.
