Box Score The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost its season opener 95-83 in double overtime to Manchester College in the opening game of the HCAC/MIAA Challenge at Earlham on Saturday.
Kalamazoo trailed by two points (38-36) at halftime before outscoring Manchester 36-34 in the second half to go to overtime. Each team scored seven points in the first overtime, but the Spartans outscored Kalamazoo 16-4 in the second overtime to claim the win.
Manchester shot 48 percent overall from the field while Kalamazoo shot 38.3 percent. Manchester sank 6-of-26 three-pointers compared to 9-of-32 for Kalamazoo. The Spartans went 17-of-31 at the free throw line while Kalamazoo made 12-of-16.
Manchester held a 58-42 advantage in rebounds, including 18-10 on the offensive end.
Eric Fishman led Kalamazoo with 33 points and three assists. Mark Ghafari scored 21 points while making 7-of-8 free throws. Grant Carey scored 12 points with four rebounds. Carter Goetz had a team-high seven rebounds.
Kalamazoo is scheduled to face Earlham on Sunday at 4 p.m.
