LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team (8-2) lost to Ohio Northern University, 13-3 in seven innings, Sunday in the Derby City Classic hosted by Spalding.
The Hornets started hot, scoring two runs in the first and one in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Ohio Northern fought back with one run in the third and four more in the fourth to secure a 5-3 advantage, then had an eight-run sixth to make it 13-3.
The Polar Bears outhit Kalamazoo 13-6 in the victory.
Robert Newland hit a two-run home run in the first. Mikey DeLuca drove in the Hornets' third run with a double in the second inning.
Kalamazoo heads to Oberlin College next weekend for three games, starting with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
