KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost, 83-57, to Alma College Saturday at Anderson Athletic Center on Senior Day. Before the game, the Hornets honored seniors Ella Boyea, Josee Cooke, Macy Ivins, Dasia Lopez, Brittany Miller and Lauren Vanderstelt.
Alma grabbed an 18-13 advantage after the first quarter, and pushed the lead to 42-33 at halftime.
The Hornets came out of the locker room strong, using a 13-4 run to pull even at 46-46, but the Scots took control from there. Alma restored the lead to 59-48 by the end of the third quarter and used strong defense in the fourth to seal the victory.
Alma shot 59.3% from the field and 58.3% from beyond the three-point line, while Kalamazoo was 38.9% from the field and 22.7% from deep.
Ruby Hogan led the Hornets with 21 points along with six rebounds and three assists. She topped 1,000 points for her career in the contest, becoming the first player in program history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists.
Vanderstelt added 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks, becoming the first player for Kalamazoo to reach 100 blocked shots in a season. Semaj' Robertson chipped in 14 points with four rebounds and tied a career-high with four steals.
Kalamazoo women's basketball will be the #6 seed in the MIAA Tournament, and will play at the #3 seed, still to be determined, on Wednesday.
