Baseball Splits Saturday Games in Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team (6-1) split a pair of games on Saturday at Eastern Kentucky University's Turkey Hughes Field at Earle Combs Stadium. Kalamazoo dropped the opener 8-5 to Carroll University before beating Wittenberg University 4-3 on a walk-off win in 10 innings.

The Hornets suffered their first loss of the season, 8-5, to Carroll University.

Kalamazoo led 3-0 after the third inning but allowed eight runs in the next three innings to trail 8-3. Kalamazoo scored a pair in the bottom of the sixth but was unable to push any more across in the loss.

The Pioneers had 13 hits in the game compared to 12 by Kalamazoo.

Robert Newland had two hits with two RBIs.

Ryar Rinehart and Alex Fenkell each had two hits and an RBI. Logan Lockhart also had two hits.

Fenkell, Clay Cook and Cade Preissing each had a double. Jackson Isaacs had a triple.

Kalamazoo led 2-0 after three innings but trailed 3-2 after the fifth. Caleb Moore's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth tied the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the 10th, Moore again came through with an RBI single to drive home Robert Newland from second for the walk-off win.

Wittenberg had 11 hits in the game compared to nine by Kalamazoo.

Cade Preissing, Caleb Moore, Logan Lockhart and Clay Cook each had two hits.

Carson Orvis struck out nine in five innings in the start. Parker Aten struck out two in two scoreless innings of relief. Owen Schihl struck out three in the final three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
