MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team went from sizzling hot to completely unstoppable Saturday at Alverno College, tying the program record for most goals in a game in an 18-1 win.
Savannah Norman started the scoring just 21 seconds into the game off an assist from Zelda Molitor. Ruby Hogan added to the lead in the fourth minute as Norman added an assist.
Kalamazoo kept going, with Callie Abair getting on the score sheet in the eighth minute and Molitor adding a goal in the 16th minute. Hogan made it 5-0 Hornets with another unassisted goal in the 23rd minute.
Sydney DeKuiper scored off a pass from Hogan in the 24th minute before Sawyer Lenon added her first collegiate goal with an assist from Cabrey O'Gorman for her first point as a Hornet in the 28th minute. Maggie Westra added a goal in the 32nd minute as Kalamazoo continued the charge.
In the 34th minute, O'Gorman notched her first goal of the season, with Ali Langlois chipping in with a goal to put the Hornets into double digits in the 40th minute. Just before the first half expired, Maren Holcomb recorded her first college goal to make it 11-0 at halftime.
Kalamazoo hardly slowed down in the second half, with Hogan finishing off her third hat trick in the last four games in the 50th minute. Hogan now has an incredible 10 goals and four assists in the Hornets' last four games.
Kearsten Schultz was the next Kalamazoo player to get in on the scoring in the 54th minute, and Kate Klahorst set up Westra's second goal of the afternoon in the 58th. Langlois added a second goal for herself with an assist from Holcomb in the 69th minute.
In the 74th minute, Lenon struck again before Izzy Kastel scored off O'Gorman's second assist on the day in the 85th minute. Finally, Tavi Butki became the 13th different Hornet with a goal to tie the program record for single-game goals as she scored in the 88th minute.
In the closing seconds, Alverno scored to prevent a shutout.
Kalamazoo (9-2-1, 3-0 MIAA) returns home and to conference play on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Adrian College (3-7-2, 0-3) at MacKenzie Field. It will be the Hornets' Most Valuable Professors game, with the seniors honoring a faculty member who has made a great impact during their time at K.
