ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost at Adrian College Wednesday, 77-55, to open MIAA action.
Adrian grabbed a 42-28 lead at halftime by shooting 48.4% from the field and 40.0% from three-point range in the opening frame. The Hornets went 39.8% from the field and 16.7% from deep, leading the rebound battle 16-11 at the break including a 7-3 advantage in offensive boards.
The Bulldogs kept the pressure on and built the lead early in the second half. Kalamazoo fought back with a 14-2 run late, but it was not enough as Adrian kept the lead steady for the victory. The Bulldogs had the edge in field goal percentage, 41.8% to 39.2%, and three-point shooting, at 33.3% to the Hornets' 26.7%, while Kalamazoo won the rebound battle, 34-25.
Patrick Perez led the Hornets with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Nelson Sompa and Jackson Keefer finished with six points each, as Sompa added three rebounds and two assists.
Gavin Van Kampen had seven rebounds to lead Kalamazoo along with five points, and Lucas Hanifan paced the Hornets in assists with three, adding four points and four rebounds.
Kalamazoo men's basketball (3-9, 0-1 MIAA) plays its first home game of 2026 Saturday at 3 p.m. against Albion (7-5, 0-1) at Anderson Athletic Center for the Hornets' Compete for a Cause Game.
