Baseball Sweeps Home Opening Doubleheader

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept a doubleheader against Albion on Saturday with a 5-4 win in game one and a 9-3 win in game two.

Game One – Kalamazoo 5, Albion 4
Kalamazoo led 2-0 after the fourth and 4-1 after the fifth following a long 2-run home run by Ryar Rinehart. Albion scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh to tie it at 4-4. Logan Lockhart's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh put Kalamazoo back on top. Steven Shelton retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth to earn the save.

Each team had seven hits in the game.

Cam Kelly's double was the Hornets' only other extra base hit besides Rinehart's home run.

Cade Preissing drove in two runs with a single up the middle in the fourth.

Logan Lockhart allowed three runs on four hits in five innings in the start. Ben Van Nes earned the win in two innings of relief. Steven Shelton picked up the save.

Game Two – Kalamazoo 9, Albion 3
Saturday's second game included an hour and a half rain delay in the third inning. Kalamazoo led 5-0 after four innings and 6-2 after six. Kalamazoo added two in the seventh and one in the eighth, while Albion scored its final run in the top of the eighth.

Kalamazoo outhit Albion 15-8.

Caleb Moore went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Logan Lockhart, Ryar Rinehart, Tanner Hawkins, Daniel Beccari and Cade Preissing each had two hits in the game. Lockhart, Hawkins and Preissing each had a double. Rinehart hit a towering, 2-run home run in the fourth.

Carson Orvis pitched five innings, striking out eight and walking two, to earn the win. Robert Ahlgren, Parker Aten and Owen Schihl held Albion to one run over the final four innings.
