DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team defeated Colby College 5-3 on Saturday. Kalamazoo improved to 11-4 with the win while Colby lost just its second game of the season (8-2).
A solo home run by
Ryar Rinehart in the fourth gave Kalamazoo the first lead of the game. Rinehart's second home run of the game paved the way to a four-run sixth and a 5-0 lead for the Hornets. Colby put three on the board in the top of the seventh before
Owen Schihl,
Parker Aten and
Ben Van Nes closed the door and preserved the win.
Logan Lockhart picked up the win, striking out seven across 6.1 innings.
Ben Van Nes pitched the ninth for the save.
Ryar Rinehart's two home runs made him Kalamazoo's career home run leader with 21.
David Stechow had two hits including a double.
Caleb Moore had a triple.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Tuesday when the Hornets face Augustana in a single game beginning at 11 a.m.
