Football Falls to Adrian in Home Finale

KALAMAZOO, Mich, - The Kalamazoo College football team dropped a 34-7 decision to Adrian College Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

The Hornets are now 4-4 on the season, including 1-4 in MIAA action.

Trailing 27-7 entering the fourth quarter, Kalamazoo got on the board just nine seconds into the frame. Dawson Skupin found Lucas Hanifan for a two-yard touchdown pass, completing the 16-play, 73-yard drive that took 5:37 off the clock. 

The drive started with a five-yard pass to Hanifan. Skupin hit Aravind Krishnan for a six-yard strike. Facing second-and-15, Skupin and Hanifan connected once again, this time for a 13-yard gain. After reaching the 41-yard line, the Hornets faced a third-and-11. Skupin connected with Hanifan for a 20-yard gain and a first down with 1:31 to play in the quarter. Adrian was whistled for a pass interference call in the end zone before Skupin hit Hanifan for the touchdown. Cameron Lewis' extra point made it 27-7.

For the game, Skupin completed 37-of-59 passes for 319 yards. He also threw for a score. Carsen Moat completed one pass for 10 yards while Zach Maurice hit two-of-three for seven yards.

Conner Bell and Skupin led the rushing attack with 16 yards apiece.

Aaron Zekman led the receivers with eight catches for 102 yards. Hanfian secured a team-best 12 catches for 101 yards and a score. Hayden Johnson hauled in five passes for 34 yards. Overall, 11 student-athletes caught at least one pass.

Defensively, Tommy Kartes had a team-best seven solo stops and nine total tackles. Corey Garrison II tallied six tackles, including six of the solo variety. Drew Fortino, Jeff Hudson, Ben Maurice and Alex Pepin tallied five stops apiece. Maurice forced a fumble.

Moat had three punts and averaged 43 yards per attempt with a long of 50.

The Hornets return to action Saturday, Nov. 8, when they play at Alma. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
