Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Kalamazoo College lost a 51-13 decision to Alma College Saturday afternoon at Angell Field.
The Hornets are now 4-5 on the season, including 1-5 in MIAA action. The Scots are 7-2 on the year, including 5-1 against conference foes. They also received votes in this week's Top 25 poll.

Josh Nichols scampered 20 yards on third-and-10 to keep the drive alive. Four plays later, he found
Jonah Spates for a 13-yard gain to move to the Alma 33-yard line. After hitting
Devin Yankee for 16 yards, he drilled a 12-yard strike to
Sheldon Riley for a touchdown.
Emory Roberts' extra point pulled the home squad within six at 13-7 with 8:21 on the clock in the opening quarter.
Trailing 34-7 in the third stanza, Nichols connected back-to-back passes to
Lucas Hanifan for 19 total yards. Riley rushed for a 21-yard gain, pushing the ball to the Alma 35-yard line. On the ensuing play, Nichols found Hanifan again – this time for a 17-yard gain. Moments later, a roughing the passer penalty put the ball at the 11-yard line. Riley rushed the final 11 yards on two plays for the score. A failed two-point conversion left the score at 34-13 with 4:16 to play.
Alma scored the final 17 points of the contest for the 51-13 final score.
Kalamazoo tallied 22 first downs in the contest. The squad rushed for 103 yards and threw for 221 yards. The Hornets completed 27 passes in 44 attempts. Kalamazoo held the ball for 31:16.
Nichols completed 26 passes in 42 attempts for 198 yards and a touchdown.
Zach Metz hit one-of-two for 23 yards.
Hanifan hauled in seven passes for 59 yards while Spates caught five balls for 56 yards. Riley caught four passes for 26 yards and a score.
Riley ran for a team-best 58 yards on 11 attempts and reached the end zone. Nichols had six carries for 35 yards.
Defensively,
Carson Deines led the way with 16 total tackles, including nine of the solo variety.
Corey Garrison,
Gabe Olivier and
Adam Stapleton had seven tackles apiece. Olivier, Stapleton and
Jackson Mitchell each recorded a tackle for loss. Mitchell intercepted a pass and returned it 11 yards.
Jermaine Calloway,
Brandon Speed and
Gabe Meyers had one pass break-up apiece.
Spates placed two of his five punts inside the 20-yard line. He also had one punt that covered 52 yards.
Jack Duggins recorded two punts for 41.0 yards per kick. He had a long of 57 yards.
The Hornets conclude the 2024 season Saturday when they host Trine for Senior Day. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
