KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team won its home opener 76-46 over Dominican University (Ill). Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind 3-0 to start the game, Kalamazoo scored the next 13 points and never looked back. Kalamazoo led 21-11 after the first quarter and 39-13 at halftime.
The Hornets shot 45.9 percent overall while holding the Stars to 32.7 percent. Kalamazoo made 7-of-17 three-pointers compared to 2-of-15 by Dominican. The Hornets sank 13-of-14 free throws. The Stars made 12-of-18.
Kalamazoo also held a 38-32 advantage in rebounds, including 9-7 on the offensive end. The Hornets scored 25 points off turnovers and outscored the Stars 38-24 in the paint.
Ruby Hogan led Kalamazoo with a career-high 23 points with eight rebounds and a career-high nine assists.
Lauren Vanderstelt scored 12 points with five rebounds and three assists.Â
Jackie Brines finished with 11 points and four rebounds.
Sophia Moir added eight points with five rebounds and three steals. Hogan and
Jordan Wesaw also were credited with three steals.
Kalamazoo (2-2) is off until Dec. 4 when the Hornets open MIAA play at home against Adrian.
