GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 at Calvin in an MIAA Tournament first round game Saturday night.
After a scoreless first half and 78 minutes of play, Calvin scored the game's first goal in the 79th minute. The Knights added a second goal in the 86th minute.
With pressure from Kalamazoo's offense, Calvin headed in an own goal for the Hornets in the 87th minute. Trailing 2-1, Kalamazoo's final show attempt went wide in the final minute.
Calvin outshot Kalamazoo 12-7 overall, 5-2 on goal. The Knights had 12 corner kicks to Kalamazoo's five.
Simon Sawyer and
Henry Plumstead led Kalamazoo with two shots apiece.
Colin Halloran and
Chad Ewing each had a shot on goal.
Gavin Houtkooper was credited with three saves in goal for the Hornets.
