KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team won its MIAA opener 4-2 over Alma College at MacKenzie Field Wednesday night.
Alma scored the game's first goal just 43 seconds into the contest. Kalamazoo's
Chad Ewing scored just under two minutes later to even it at 1-1, assisted by
Colin Halloran.
Jaden Buist put the Hornets ahead in the 36th minute with an unassisted goal. Kalamazoo led 2-1 at halftime.
Chad Ewing made it a 3-1 game a little over two minutes into the second half, assisted on a long pass by
Lucas Ruiz.
Alma scored its second goal in the 57th minute on a penalty kick.
Ben Battreall scored in the 74th minute, assisted by
Henry Plumstead.
Alma outshot Kalamazoo 17-15 overall. Each team had eight shots on goal. Alma also had 10 corner kicks to Kalamazoo's four.
Gavin Houtkooper was credited with six saves in goal.
Kalamazoo matched its season-high in goals. The Hornets also scored four in a 4-2 win over Siena Heights on Sept. 14.
Kalamazoo travels to Adrian College next on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m.
