Box Score

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team concluded its season Wednesday night in the MIAA tournament quarterfinals with a 97-39 loss to the host Trine University Thunder.

Trine, ranked No. 3 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, wasted no time showing their credentials, as an offensive rebound and a layup grabbed the lead 18 seconds into the game. Kaytlyn Tidey's long jumper was the first Kalamazoo mark on the scoresheet and brought the Hornets to within 5-3 with 8:41 left in the quarter. Trine promptly scored the game's next 12 points, taking a 17-3 lead with 4:06 remaining in the first.

Kelsey Diekman's three-pointer snapped the run and brought the Hornets to within 11 at 17-6, but the Thunder closed out the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 27-6 lead.

Diekman scored six second-quarter points to lead the Hornets, but Kalamazoo was outscored 21-13 overall, allowing the MIAA regular-season co-champions to take a 48-19 lead into the locker room. The Thunder then used a 31-8 advantage in the third quarter to erase any lingering doubt about the outcome.

Diekman led the way for the Hornets with 11 points on 4-8 shooting from the field. Tidey, a senior, sank a trio of three-point baskets on her way to scoring nine points. Kaelyn Arlington scored seven points and her five rebounds shared the team lead with Sara English, who also had seven points and a team-high two assists.

Trine dominated the stat sheet, shooting 42% from the field (33-78) compared to Kalamazoo's 28% (13-46). They claimed the advantage in three-point shooting (38-33%), rebounds (52-31), assists (24-6), steals (20-5), and blocks (9-1).

Kalamazoo completes its season with a 4-22 record.
