Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team won its final regular-season game with a 3-2 overtime victory against Hope College on Friday night.
Gold Afolabi got Kalamazoo on the board first with a goal within the first minute of the game, assisted by Ben Meschke. But Hope was close behind and came up with a goal at 1:59 for the first tie of the contest.
In the 20th minute, Hayden Strobel scored for the Hornets, helped again with an assist by Meschke. The game stayed in Kalamazoo's favor until the 72nd minute of the contest when the Flying Dutch came up with another goal. Time ran out without either team scoring again to end regulation with a 2-2 tie heading into overtime play.
Just 27 seconds into overtime, Kalamazoo was awarded a free kick after a foul on Hope. Alex Wallace's kick was successful to give the Hornets a 3-2 victory.
Hope outshot the Hornets 16-12, with eight shots on goal to Kalamazoo's five.
Junior Luke Kastran improved to 5-1 on the season with six saves made in goal, playing all 90 minutes.
Kalamazoo moves on to the MIAA tournament beginning on Tuesday, April 20 with matchups and host schools to be announced.
