KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 41-29 to Concordia-Chicago at Angell Field on Saturday.

The visiting Cougars jumped out to a 16-0 after the first quarter and led 26-6 at halftime. The Hornets scored on a 55-yard pass from Zach VanFaussien to Zak Zagon early in the second quarter making it 16-6 before Concordia closed out the half with 10 unanswered points.

Kalamazoo came out strong in the third quarter with 21 straight points to take a 27-26 lead on Jakob Frederick's 27-yard interception return with 17 seconds left in the quarter. Seth Dexter scored twice in the quarter. His first was a 30-yard reception from VanFaussien and the second was a 7-yard reception from Alex White.

Kalamazoo's lead was short lived, however, as Concordia scored early in the fourth quarter and again midway through to take a 41-27 lead. The Cougars allowed a safety with 59 seconds left making the final score 41-29.

Kalamazoo put up 461 yards of total offense compared to 407 for Concordia. The Hornets turned the ball over five times, however, compared to just one turnover by Concordia.

Lorenzo Redmond rushed for 68 yards while Jared Pittman added 49 yards.

Zach VanFaussien was 11-for-17 passing for 158 yards while also rushing for 63 yards. Alex White was 11-of-24 passing for 119 yards.

Zak Zagon led the Hornets with 133 yards receiving on six catches. Dylan Padget had five catches for 51 yards while Anthony Giovanni had five catches for 34 yards.

Clay Wilkey led the Kalamazoo defense with 17 total tackles including four for lost yardage. Jakob Frederick had 15 tackles including 1.5 for lost yardage and the one interception returned for a touchdown. Cody Howrigon recorded nine tackles while Quentin Sweeney had seven tackles with a sack.

Kalamazoo has next week off before returning to action at Alma on Saturday, Sept. 30.
