Football wins season finale over Albion

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College Football team won its season finale 34-17 over Albion College Saturday at Angell Field.

Kalamazoo got on the board first when Alex White ran 40 yards for a touchdown midway through the first quarter.

Albion made it a 7-3 game with a field goal with 2:25 left in the first.

Alex White connected with Anthony Giovanni on a 68-yard touchdown play with 9:01 left in the second quarter. The Kalamazoo defense forced three punts and intercepted a pass which led to another touchdown with 41 seconds left in the half, a 14-yard pass from White to Collin Feilla. Albion's final drive of the half ended at the Kalamazoo 32 as the Hornets entered the break up 20-3.

Albion scored on its first possession of the second half to make it a 20-10 game.

Alex White threw his third touchdow pass of the game with 4:42 left in the third, this time connecting with Brett Lehman for 13 yards to go up 27-10.

Albion scored again with 5:39 left in the fourth quarter to make it 27-17. Albion took over again with 4:47 remaining, but Kalamazoo's BJ Smith intercepted a pass and returned it 47 yards to the Albion 8-yardline to setup the Hornets final score of the game, a 1-yard run by Clay Wilkey to make it 34-17 with 2:08 remaining. Kalamazoo's defense held tough and kept Albion off the board as time expired.

Alex White finished 17-of-29 passing for 224 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. White also rushed for 71 yards with a touchdown.

Lorenzo Redmond ran for 33 yards on 14 carries while Clay Wilkey finished with 16 yards on seven carries.

Collin Feilla led the Hornet receivers with 94 yards on 10 catches. Anthony Giovanni finished with 90 yards on two catches.

Jakob Frederick led the Hornet defense with 16 total tackles, including two and a half for lost yardage and a sack. Sean Bauer added 11 tackles and was credited with two pass breakups.

Jake Sypniewski intercepted two passes with 49 return yards while BJ Smith had one interception of 47 yards.

Andrew Thiede and Matt Burczyk were each credited with a sack.
