Box Score 2 ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the season on Friday.
Kalamazoo lost the opener 3-1 to Mount St. Joseph (25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22) before defeating Earlham 3-1 (25-10, 25-19, 16-25, 25-17).
Sophie Spencer led the Hornets with 10 kills in the opener while Shelby Suseland finished with seven. Kaela Van Til added five with 13 digs.
Paige Johnson recorded 23 assists while Logan Horejsi had 25 digs.
Against Earlham, Suseland tallied 10 kills while Spencer had nine. Van Til posted five more kills with 11 digs.
Johnson had 24 assists while Horejsi had 21 digs.
Dana DeVito had 12 digs in each match.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday with matches at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
