Football defeats Concordia-Chicago, 61-15

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team defeated Concordia-Chicago 61-15 on Saturday to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Alex White tied a school record with six touchdown passes connecting with five different receivers. White finished 24-of-37 for 366 yards.

Shon Powell rushed for 116 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown.

Elijah Hamilton-Wray had five catches for 60 yards with two touchdowns. Billy Roberts (68 yards) and Mason Sarosi (54 yards) each made four catches. Collin Feilla led the team with 74 receiving yards on three catches with a score. K.J. Schultz (3-64), Shon Powell (3-22) and Jordan Jabara (1-13) also had touchdown receptions.

Viet Nguyen also made a 19-yard field goal to complete the scoring for the offense. Kalamazoo also scored on a safety after the defense backed the Cougars up to the 1 yardline.

The Kalamazoo defense caused five turnovers while Dylan Zerki led the unit with nine tackles. Zerki, Quentin Sweeney, Zac Hill, Sean Bauer, Mitchell Wynkoop, Dominic DiMelis and Andrew Thiede were each in on sacks. Sweeney and Justin Roop each had an interception.

Kalamazoo put up 637 yards of total offense, the third highest total in school history and just 14 shy of the record.

Kalamazoo opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game, but Concordia quickly evened the score a minute later. The Hornets proceeded to score the next 28 points to take a 31-7 lead with 10:55 left in the second quarter. After another score by both teams Kalamazoo went into halftime up 38-15.

Kalamazoo led 52-15 after the third quarter before scoring nine more points in the fourth.

Kalamazoo has a week off before returning to action Oct. 3 at Benedictine (Ill.).
