Women's Basketball falls by seven to Trine, 53-46

The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost 53-46 to Trine University in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Saturday.

Kalamazoo trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half before entering halftime down 10 (28-18).

The Hornets made it a four point game (34-30) with 13:39 remaining in the second half, but the visiting Thunder used an 8-0 run to take a 12 point lead with 9:31 left. Trine eventually extended its lead to 14 (49-35) with 2:00 remaining. The Hornets battled back to get within seven points with 45 seconds left, but were unable to get any closer as time expired.

Trine shot 30 percent overall while limiting Kalamazoo to just 25.9 percent. Kalamazoo held a 48-43 advantage in rebounds, but turned the ball over seven times more than Trine  (20-13).

Emily Lindsay led Kalamazoo with 12 points and three rebounds. Nicole Antoine scored six points with a team-high 12 rebounds and three assists.

Hannah Maness and Lucy Mailing each scored nine points off the bench with Mailing also grabbing five rebounds. Holly Cooperrider scored seven points with four rebounds and five assists.

The Hornets are scheduled to return to action at Albion on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m.
