Box Score The Kalamazoo College football team lost its first game of the season Saturday at Centre College (Ky.), 35-23.
Kalamazoo struck first on a 45-yard touchdown run by Aaron McGuire with 12:13 left in the first quarter.
Centre evened the score five minutes later before taking a 14-7 lead with 3:10 left in the first.
Kalamazoo made it 14-10 with a 24-yard field goal by William Marx with 51 seconds left in the second quarter.
Centre scored on a 46-yard touchdown pass as time expired in the second quarter to take a 21-10 lead into halftime.
The host Colonels made it 28-10 following a nine-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter.
Kalamazoo battled back, however, with a pair of third quarter touchdown passes from McGuire to Josh Wise (18 yards) and Jimmy Frye (1 yard) to make it a five point game (28-23) with 1:42 left in the third quarter.
Centre added a touchdown with 5:00 left in the fourth quarter to go up 35-23. Kalamazoo was unable to score again before time expired.
Kalamazoo put up 404 yards of total offense to Centre's 357 yards. Kalamazoo turned the ball over four times, however, compared to no turnovers by Centre.
Aaron McGuire was 20-of-33 passing for 194 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
McGuire also rushed for 87 yards on 28 carries. Dimeko Price had 84 yards on 22 carries.
Josh Wise led the receivers with five catches for 70 yards. Jimmy Frye had four catches for 46 yards while Mikael Lott pulled in four catches for 30 yards.
Blake Simon and Ryan Gregory led the Kalamazoo defense with six tackles apiece. Dylan Zerki had five tackles. Austin McBee was credited with two tackles, including a sack for a 13-yard loss.
Kalamazoo (3-1) returns home to face Trine in the MIAA opener next Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
