After a scoreless first half, Nicholas Shabino put Kalamazoo on top with a goal in the 52nd minute (Emerson Talanda-Fisher assist).
Kalamazoo made it 2-0 with a goal by Roger Mason Darling in the 67th minute (Mike Paule-Carres).
The Hornet defense held tough and helped Dane Macdonell secure the shutout in goal with seven saves.
Kalamazoo outshot Trine 16-15 overall, including 10-7 on goal.
Kalamazoo returns to action with a game at Adrian on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
