The Kalamazoo College volleyball team held on to beat Defiance College 3-2 Saturday morning.

Kalamazoo won the first two sets (25-17, 25-19), but Defiance battled back to win the next two sets (25-12, 25-19). The Hornets won the decisive fifth set, 16-14.

Kelsey Hill led Kalamazoo with 16 kills and a .387 attack percentage. Nya Greenstone added 14 kills to go with a team-high 12 digs. Johanna Kupe finished with 11 kills.

Alex Gothard had 39 assists with 11 digs. Quinn McCormick was credited with a team-high five block assists.

Kalamazoo defeated Franklin College 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the final match of the Green Hornet Invitational.

The Hornets narrowly won the first two sets (25-23, 27-25) before closing out the match with a 25-17 win in the third set.

Nya Greenstone and Kelsey Hill led the way for Kalamazoo with eight kills apiece. Greenstone also had 10 digs and was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Alex Gothard had five kills to go with 26 assists and 10 digs. Allison Liddane had a team-high 16 digs.

Kalamazoo (2-2) is scheduled to open MIAA play at Alma on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
