A great start for the Kalamazoo College men's soccer team was dampened by visiting Hope on Saturday at MacKenzie Field, as the Hornets fell, 4-1.
Nicholas Shabino scored a first minute goal on an assist from Roger Mason Darling to give the Hornets an early lead. Six minutes later, Hope pulled level on a goal by Jason Muller on an assist from Grant Neil.
Hope added two more first half goals by Muller and by Brandon Underwood. The visitors added another tally in the second on an unassisted Underwood goal.
The Hornets outshot Hope, 13-12, with Shabino putting two of three shots on target and Emerson Talanda-Fisher putting one of two shots on frame.
Dane Macdonell made two saves on 12 shots faced. Hope won five corner kicks to the Hornets' one.
Four yellow cards were issued in the contest, three to Hope and one to Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo falls to 6-4-1 overall and 4-3-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. Hope moves to 8-4-0 and 5-2-0 in league play.
The Hornets will continue to play at home in the coming week as they host Trine on Oct. 10 and Adrian on Oct. 13.
