Sean Foulkes joined Kalamazoo College as an assistant coach for cross country and track & field in August of 2026.
Coach Foulkes brings more than 20 years of coaching experience to the Kalamazoo College track and field/cross country program, with experience at the youth, club, high school, collegiate, and post-collegiate levels. Foulkes will work primarily with student-athletes in the throwing events and assist with recruiting.
Throughout his coaching career, Foulkes has focused on developing athletes through technical instruction, individualized training, biomechanics, and long-term athlete development. His experience includes four years as a collegiate head coach, along with extensive experience coaching throws at the high school and club levels throughout Michigan and Indiana. He is also currently coaching a post-collegiate athlete working towards qualifying for the US Olympic Trials in 2028.
Prior to joining Kalamazoo College, Foulkes served as a volunteer assistant coach at NCAA Division IIÂ Concord University (WV), where he designed and implemented throws training and periodization while assisting with recruiting, training logistics, and equipment management.
He also previously served as head track and field coach at Rochester Christian University and Goshen College, overseeing student-athlete development, recruiting, program operations, equipment, and meet management. Between the two institutions there were over 70 school records broken and numerous individuals qualified for nationals, including Rochester Christian University’s first ever NAIA national championship qualifier (HJ). He also received the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Champions of Character Coach Award during his time there.
At the high school level, athletes that Foulkes worked with were able to secure several school records, as well as championships at the conference, sectional, regional, state, and national level. Â
Foulkes has coached and mentored hundreds of student-athletes during his career and has worked with athletes ranging from developmental levels through conference and national-level competition.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Foulkes has organized and hosted sports instructional clinics, creating opportunities for athletes and coaches to learn from experienced practitioners and guest clinicians.
Foulkes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Student Integrated Curriculum from Western Michigan University. He holds USA Track & Field Level 1 and Level 2 coaching certifications, with a Level 2 specialization in throws, as well as an Emerging Elite certification in throws. Â
Foulkes is married and lives with his wife, Ashley, and son, Levi, in Kalamazoo.
