Kyle Oberhill is the Diving Coach of Kalamazoo College’s men and women's swimming and diving teams. He joined the Kalamazoo College staff as men’s and women’s diving coach in 2009-10 and served as co-interim head coach from January to May, 2025.
Oberhill competed as a Hornet diver as a member of the 2002 and 2003 MIAA championship teams and also competed at the NCAA Championships in 2002.
In addition to his time at Kalamazoo College, Oberhill has been coaching diving in the Kalamazoo area since 2003 with several organizations including Allegan High School, Hackett Catholic Central High School, Mattawan High School, Portage Northern High School, and Kalamazoo Central High School. His success as a coach at the high school level include coaching the MHSAA 2015 Division 3 Girl’s State Meet champion, being named the 2014 and 2015 MISCA D3 Diving Coach of the Year, and receiving the 2024 Bruce Harlan Award which is “the highest award given by MISCA for continued leadership, contributions, and service to Michigan High School Diving.”
He also heads the club diving team West Michigan Aquabatics where he inspires a love of diving for elementary through high school aged athletes year round. Through coaching at his club, Oberhill has also mentored most of the dive coaches working in the Kalamazoo area, showing his commitment to the development of his sport. In January 2025, Oberhill was elected to the Chairman Position of the Michigan Diving Association.
Oberhill has also worked with several world-class Olympic diving coaches at camps and clinics including Olympic Coaches, Dick Kimball, Dr. Jeff Huber, and John Wingfield.
Oberhill completed his master’s degree in Coaching Sport Performance at Western Michigan University in 2012.
Men’s Team Accomplishments:
As an athlete, Oberhill helped guide the Hornet men's team to an MIAA championship in 2011. The Hornets repeated as league champions in 2012 and finished 13th overall at the NCAA Championships.
In 2012, freshman Will Guedes earned his first trip to the NCAA Championships which resulted in an All-American performance by placing fifth on 1M and an honorable mention All-American performance by placing 11th on 3M. Guedes was the first male diver to compete at the NCAA Championships since 2003.
In 2013, sophomore Will Guedes won the NCAA III championship in the 3M event. Guedes also finished third in the 1M and was named NCAA III Diver of the Year. Guedes won both events at the MIAA Championships and was recognized as MIAA Diver of the Year. Sophomore Elliot Littman finished second in both events at the MIAA Championships and competed in both events at the NCAA III Championships.
Oberhill also coached Colin Grogan to All-American performance in 2018 and Sam Ankley to All-American placements in 2018 and 2021.
Women’s Team Accomplishments:
In 2012, senior Erin Campbell earned her first trip to the NCAA Championships which resulted in an All-American performance by placing sixth on 1M and an honorable mention All-American performance by placing 12th on 3M. Campbell was the first female diver to compete at the NCAA Championships in over a decade.
In 2016 Oberhill coached sophomore Madeline Woods who received All American Honorable Mention honors by placing 16th on 3m at NCAA Championships. In 2018 Nicki Bailey received All American Honors by by placing 8th on 1m. Bailey would repeat this performance the next year by placing 13th on 1m and 14th on 3m in 2019. Bailey was also named MIAA Diver of the year as a Freshman in 2018.
Oberhill was also the coach of Kalamazoo's largest contingent of divers to ever compete at the NCAA III Championships, taking four divers, senior Colin Grogan, senior Madeline Woods, freshman Nicki Bailey, and freshman Madeline Jump, in 2018.
