Volleyball Falls in Pair of Five-Set Matches

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team lost a pair of five-set matches at home on Saturday.

Kalamazoo vs. Alma

Alma won the first set and the teams won every other set including Alma winning the decisive fifth set with an overall score of 25-13, 21-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-9.

Kalamazoo hit .100 in the match compared to .242 for the Scots. 

Madi Goodman led the Hornets with 13 kills while Ashley Rill finished with 11 kills and 13 digs.

Grace Kraft recorded 28 assists with 15 digs. Taylor Ferguson led the team with 21 digs and four service aces. Maddie Wojcik also had double-digit digs with 11.

Kalamazoo vs. Defiance

Kalamazoo led 2-1 after three sets, winning 26-24 in the first, dropping the second 25-19, and winning the third 26-24. Defiance pulled out a 25-23 win in the fourth set before winning the fifth set 15-8.

Kalamazoo hit .181 in the match compared to .216 for the Yellow Jackets.

Madi Goodman posted 24 kills with a .438 hitting percentage. Hannah Kerns had 10 kills while Sydney Dowdell and Grace Kraft each had nine. Lindsey Nedd added eight.

Kraft tallied 50 assists while Taylor Ferguson led the team with 29 digs. Ashley Rill had 18 digs while McKenna Hepler added 16 and Maddie Wojcik 12.

Kalamazoo is back in action Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Calvin.
